Northwest Repertory Singers announces next season’s line-up

TACOMA – The Northwest Repertory Singers (NWRS) 2009-2010 concert season will include a North American Christmas, a night at the opera and choral gems from France.

The season includes collaborations with the Rainier Family Opera Company and Northwest Sinfonietta.

“We love to share the joy of choral music with audiences throughout the Pacific Northwest,” said Paul W. Schultz, NWRS artistic director and founder. “Next season’s line-up is distinguished by the variety, creativity and richness of the repertoire we’ll be performing.”

In December, “A North American Christmas” will include music from Mexico and Canada, and a wide array of American carols. The concert will conclude with Daniel Pinkham's glorious Christmas Cantata with a large brass ensemble and organ. Concerts are at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20.

NWRS teams up with the Rainier Family Opera (Erin Guinup, Artistic Director)at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 13, for “NWRS at the Opera.” It will be a night of scenes and choruses from some of the most admired operas. Highlights include music from Cavalleria Rusticana (Mascagni), L'Eliser d'Amore (Donizetti), La Traviata (Verdi) and Candide(Bernstein).

“Choral Gems from France,” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 22, will include works by Messiaen, Ravel and Durufle. The concert will conclude with Gabriel Faure's Requiem, accompanied by Northwest Sinfonietta. This is the first time NWRS has engaged an orchestra for a major work.

The Northwest Repertory Singers, founded in 2001, is increasingly recognized as one of the finest choirs in the Pacific Northwest. The group recently won a cultural preservation award from the Pierce County Arts Commission.
